From Foreman to Leader to Teacher – Creating Conditions for Success in Carpentry Training

Workshop Details:

  • Day 2
  • Full day in 3 sessions
  • Room – Vickers 3
  • In English and French with simultaneous translation

Description:

With limited time and resources, how can we cover the essential program objectives while integrating concrete, community-based projects that give meaning to the training?

These sessions will offer a practical, hands-on reflection of the teaching of carpentry programs in communities.

We will explore participants’ teaching preferences and challenges as well as share approaches, tools, and strategies developed over time related to the planning, teaching, and evaluation of competencies in the carpentry program. Participants will explore how to adapt these resources to their various local realities.

Relationship to Community & Collaboration

The goal of these sessions is to build a community of practice in carpentry while sharing strategies, questions, challenges, and successes.

Presenters:

Jovan Mercier
Carpentry Instructor

For many years, I have been traveling around the world and more lately across Canada and Quebec. I have a genuine interest in people and their story. Teaching has become a passion and a vocation.

I love the carpentry trade and I understand how empowering it can be. My specialty is shop organization and space optimization to create ideal learning environments. My intention would be to travel to different communities and share my expertise.

Alexandre Lavoie

I value community engagement, which I believe fosters meaningful and unifying initiatives. Guided by these values, I worked as a carpenter on innovative projects while sharing my expertise with others.

In my teaching career, I have developed strong expertise in creating multimedia educational content and designing training programs, fostering collaboration. I aim to share in a way that meets your specific needs.
